Health Sciences students showcase skills at HOSA

SEATech students in the Health Sciences program had a strong showing in Spokane for the HOSA-future health professionals event. SEATech sent 18 students to Spokane, along with two Walla Walla High School students, to participate at HOSA this year. All students participated in the first round of the written exam in February for Nursing Assistant, CPR/First Aid, and Terminology. Walla Walla Public Schools had 11 students make it to the second round for the Nursing Assistant skills and CPR/First Aid portion.
HOSA has 250,000 international members. All the high schools and skill centers from Washington state participated with more than 2,000 state-wide students in attendance.
“It was a successful weekend for all who attended,” said SEATech Health Sciences instructor Sandy Thomas. “SEATech students felt the buzz and energy from around the state. The competition was fierce and students started to realize the high professionalism in schools across the state,”
Thomas said her students came back with more knowledge and hunger to study for their state boards to become Certified Nursing Assistants. HOSA-Future Health Professionals is a global student-led organization, whose mission is to promote career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA is a viable solution to health industry shortages.
