Drones students tour UAS Range in Pendleton
On May 25th, Walla Walla High School (WaHi) drones students had the opportunity to tour the Pendleton UAS Range in Pendleton, Oregon. There, 34 students toured the facility and learned more about the history surrounding the program stretching all the way back to World War II. However, this is not just a historic site. "The mission of the Pendleton UAS Range is to provide customer-focused operating conditions that facilitate successful and safe integration into the national airspace system (NAS)." The facility trains drone pilots to earn their Part 107 Certification which allows them to fly drones commercially.
Pendleton UAS Range also facilitates other companies to utilize their facilities to train their employees. Companies like Amazon, local farmers, and the US military utilize this facility due to its consistent weather conditions to test their unmanned aerial vehicles. Because of this connection, students who train with Pendleton UAS Range have the opportunity to network with other companies utilizing the facility and potentially get hired as a UAS pilot earning upwards of $200,000 a year.
This was an exciting opportunity to show students more career opportunities that await them after taking Drones at WAHI!
