Garrison Middle School Students Excel in TEAMS Engineering Competition
On Tuesday, February 18, Garrison Middle School students Isaac Choi, Ryan Newton, and Keith Walton participated in the TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) competition, showcasing their STEM skills and teamwork. TEAMS is an annual competition that challenges middle and high school students to solve real-world engineering problems using their knowledge of math and science.
This year's TEAMS competition focused on designing and building a hotel in a hurricane-prone area. The Garrison team demonstrated their creativity and problem-solving abilities in the competition's three components:
Design/Build: The team designed and built a model hotel structure that could withstand hurricane-force winds and other environmental challenges.
Multiple Choice: They answered a series of multiple-choice questions related to math and science concepts relevant to engineering and construction.
Essay: The team collaborated on an essay exploring the environmental considerations of building in hurricane-prone areas.
"We are incredibly proud of Isaac, Ryan, and Keith for their hard work and dedication in the TEAMS competition," said Mr. Bertram, STEM teacher at Garrison Middle School. "They represented our school with distinction and demonstrated the power of teamwork and STEM skills in solving real-world problems."
Garrison Middle School is committed to providing students with opportunities to excel in STEM. The school offers a variety of STEM-related courses, clubs, and activities to foster students' passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
