FFA Floral Team - Regional and State Updates

FFA Floral Competition - Regionals

On March 17, Kaiya WItcher, Kinzey Appleford, Tazie Betxler, Natalia Horn-Quintero, and Aliesha Vickers traveled to Lind-Ritzville to compete in their first floral competition.

The team participated in plant and tool identification, problem-solving, a written knowledge test, four separate practicums (arrangement making, growing procedures, media selling, and disease identification), and team activity. The team came home with a third-place award in practicums. For this being all of their first time competing in this competition everyone did an outstanding job and still have much more to improve on. On to state…

FFA Floral Competition - State

On the morning of Friday, March 22nd, the WaHi Floral Team set out for the other side of the mountains to compete in the State FFA Floral competition at Castle Rock.  They stopped at Battle Ground School District’s Botanical Garden for some plant identification along with an evening corsage practice.

Saturday was a VERY long day but the girls made it into the top 20, after competing in the Plant/Tool ID, Knowledge Test, and Problem-Solving portions. They moved on to compete in the second half of the competition where they competed in floral arrangement, growing procedures, disorders, media selling, and a bridal team activity.  The team placed 11th overall, with Natalia Horn-Quintero being WaHi’s top score!

Coach Jennifer Crane said, “So much growth and learning has occurred on this team over the year, lots of hard work, studying, and morning/lunch practices pay off! We are proud of Tazie Betzler, Kinzey Appleford, Kaiya Witcher, Natalia Horn-Quintero, and Aliesha Vickers for representing Walla Walla well this year!!!” If you see any of these ladies, make sure to congratulate them on their perseverance and success!
